Gifted and dedicated soldier who was an inspiration to his colleagues

Cpl Leaning was commanding a Scimitar Armoured Reconnaissance vehicle on a routine convoy mission in Iraq's Maysan Province, where the regiment was nearing the end of a six-month tour.
At around 11.20am local time on the 19th April 2007, an improvised explosive device went off, killing Cpl Ben Leaning instantly. His colleague Trooper Kris Turton also died in the explosion and three other members were severely injured.

Ben wasn't just a soldier he was a loving Son, Brother, God father and friend, he is missed by us all,
It has been over a year now since he was taken from us and we all miss him more and more everyday!
Ben was there for me when i needed someone the most he helped me thru things i couldn't even tell,
he made me feel amazing when i was feeling down and made me laugh when all i wanted to do was cry!
Ben and me became so close over the few months before he went out too iraq and the last time i saw Ben was the 17th sept 06, we were cuddled up on my sofa and he gave me a cuddle and kissed me on the head and told me we would be together when he returned from iraq, oh how i clung to those words over the next 7 months!
I'm so greatful Ben for everything, i am the person i am now because of you! I'll never forgot any moment we spent together esp you doing one handed pull ups in my bedroom haha reminding me that you had too support that wrist haha!!! and showing me tadpoles lol!!
I miss you so much... Stay close sweetheart,
I hope your still smiling up there oh i no you will be!
Your always in our hearts and minds! RIP, i wish things were so different!!
I'd give anything to have you back here and safe! xxxxx

I wish Heaven had a phone so I could hear your voice again. I thought of you today, but that is nothing new. I thought about you yesterday, and days before that too. I think of you in silence, I often speak your name. All I have are memories and a picture in a frame. Your memory is a keepsake, from which I'll never part.... The Unknown Future

Life is a book in volumes three--
The past, the present, and the yet-to-be.
The past is written and laid away,
The present we're writing every day,
And the last and best of volumes three
Is locked from sight -- God keeps the key.

words of comfort ?

The soldier stood and faced his God

Which must always come to pass

He hoped his shoes were shining

Just as brightly as his brass.

'Step forward now, you soldier,

How shall I deal with you?

Have you always turned the other cheek?

To My Church have you been true?'

The soldier squared his shoulders and

said, 'No, Lord, I guess I ain't

Because those of us who carry guns

Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays

And at times my talk was tough,

And sometimes I've been violent,

Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny

That wasn't mine to keep...

Though I worked a lot of overtime

When the bills got just too steep,

And I never passed a cry for help,

Though at times I shook with fear,

And sometimes, God forgive me,

I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place

Among the people here,

They never wanted me around

Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,

It needn't be so grand,

I never expected or had too much,

But if you don't, I'll understand.'

There was a silence all around the throne

Where the saints had often trod

As the soldier waited quietly,

For the judgment of his God,

'Step forward now, you soldier,

You've borne your burdens well,

Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,

You've done your time in Hell.'

God Bless Ben

Thank you for your bravery - we owe you a debt. You have a real twinkle in your eye. My son was murdered at the age of 24 in August 2004 in Thailand and I know our world has been turned upside down. Here is a young man to be proud of and I hope all those that love him can take strength from his courage and from the memories he has left. Memories are what keep us going, keep us strong.
Rest in peace Ben.

i miss you

When someone dies...something dies in all of us for we are all connected. But when someone so young and so full of life with so much promise departs at so early an age...it is so tragic. Life's flickering candle is so fragile and must be embraced as a gift as precious as love! Good night my hunky monkey. The smile you leave is an experience I will take with me always.' Not a day goes by when i don't think about you, i'll love you always.... Yummy Mummy xx

thank you

Thankyou for doing a job many in this country could not or would not do.
Many are quick to critisise but you were doing your job and we as a nation should be proud of all our servicemen and women who lay their lives on the line for all of us.
Your family i am sure are so proud of you.

So Sorry

How sorry I am to read of the loss of such a lovely caring man. His photo just glows love and affection to all that view's it.
In the arms of God and into a place where pain is none, yet love and happiness everlasting.

God Bless lovely Ben.
